“I was sort of a nerd as a child. I had a bad home life and school was my escape from it all. I was always on the honor roll and was in the Gifted and Talented program. I always had straight A’s cried over B’s and was competitive with all of my friends with grades.
This is in honor of when I won the spelling bee at school and regionals I made it all the way to the last round at State. The picture in the middle is me around the same time that I had won. It was always such a great feeling being in front of everyone spelling words and being in the spotlight. I felt like I spelled even better when I was under the pressure in front of everyone. I may not have made it all the way to Nationals but I still cherish that opportunity and the fun I had with it. Before anyone asks…No I don’t remember the word I lost with.” – Alyssa

“When I was about 9 or 10 Me my Dad my Mom and my three brothers took a road/camping trip to Yellowstone National Park…This was the most memorable family vacation that I have ever had
Along the way there we saw a cave in the cliffs on the side of the road and decided to go check it out …My dad had me convinced that there were actual Indian drawings on the walls and I remember thinking how cool it was that they were put there so many years ago…I later found out that it was just some beer or something that was poured onto the rock wall in a way that made it look like some sort of Woolly Mammoth..LOL
We stopped and camped in Jackson Hole Wyoming and stayed at this cute little RV park..There was an apple tree and a horse in a corral next to a swing set..I remember feeding the horse apples and swinging for hours…my mom putting my hair in two long pigtails and when I would swing Id lean back and let them touch the ground. The next morning I remember waking up bright and early and it being so cold…my dad made us instant oatmeal to warm us up..and to this very day every time I taste strawberries and cream oatmeal it reminds me of this trip
Another smell that remind me of this trip (although kinda unpleasant) would have to be the sulfur smell from the geysers ..PeeYoo!
but It was so cool to see all these natural springs..and I thought it was so neat that Old Faithful actually had a strict schedule
I loved seeing all the wildlife and couldn’t believe how trusting and approachable they were…One of my brothers was sitting on a fence post trying to get a picture with him and the buffalo behind him, when it jabbed its horn into his butt…I thought it was funny ..he wasnt hurt just a little sore..I guess thats what he gets for wearing red pants…lol…My other brother actually got a rabbit to eat trail mix out of his hand..I thought that was so cool!
One night My dad thought it would be funny if him and my older more experienced boy scout brothers were to take me and my little brother out “Snipe” hunting…He woke us up in the middle of the night and told us it was the best time for catching “Snipe” we took a pillow case and he told us to run towards the bushes to scare them out and that they would catch them…so we ran towards the bushes and my two older “More Experienced” brothers had the pillow case with one arm in it wrestling around to make it look like he had caught something…LOL…they didn’t fool me…My Dad still thinks he did though
I also got to meet a celebrity! good Ol’ Smokey the Bear! he was actually there at Yellowstone Park! and I got to meet him…He taught us all about the prevention of forest fires…I was convinced that only I could prevent them…LOL..there was actually a huge fire that year too..so it was pretty crazy and we didn’t get to see most of the park due to the smoke and fire
One of the scary parts of this trip is when my little brother was playing near some rocks and fell and started sliding down gravel towards a huge drop off the side of a cliff…it was pretty much about fifteen feet before he would have fell straight down..My dad jumped down after him and me and my older brother grabbed a tree branch so that my dad had something to hold on to..it was way scary…but it kinda brought us all a little closer
This was by far the best family trip ever!…besides the fact that my brother almost fell off a cliff! and my other brother got rammed by a buffalo in the butt…and that stinky sulfur smell…just thinking about this trip makes me want to go back..I think my next vacation will be to Yellowstone” – Chintzy
HONORABLE MENTIONS (300 Golderiffic Kitty Statues):

Gerlie & Bubbles

“When I was a child, my dad would take me fishing every summer. We’d rent a beautiful cabin near a big river with a large gorgeous meadow, and we’d fish all day. We’d go hiking and he’d tell me all about nature and it’s beauty. To this day, these memories are the ones I cherish, and I cannot wait to pass these awesome memories down to my own son. So here’s my entry – ‘Fishing With Dad.’” – Gerlie

TaMmY & MiMi

“My best memories of childhood were my father taking me fishing. We had to walk a pathway to get to the River and it took some time to get there. The walks and talks were long and I was very anxious to get there. As I got older I realized just how much those walks and talks meant to him and me. I think of this every time I here the new country song by Trace Adkins “She thinks we’re only fishing”. My daddy worked hard every day to make sure he provided his family’s needs, but he worked even harder to make sure he spent time with each and every one of his children. That is something I respect in him and will never forget.” – TaMmY

Aida & Babri

“I close my eyes and can think of my childhood as if it were yesterday. I’d visit Grandparents. I’d sit near the lake and put my feet in. I can still feel the cool water on my feet. I’d sit there til all my paper boats sank in. I visit everyday…” – Aida
